Not as widely known as the almond blossom season in Mallorca, but just as enchanting: From late January to March, Tenerife is adorned with a breathtaking pink-and-white bloom. When the almond trees flower, it’s a sure sign that the (mild) Canary Islands winter has come to an end.
One of the most famous almond blossom hikes, the “Ruta del Almendros en Flor”, begins in Santiago del Teide. This trail winds through the plateau below Mount Teide, offering a manageable challenge with approximately 350 meters of elevation gain and descent. While the hike isn’t overly strenuous, the rocky paths through the lava landscape call for sturdy footwear. Around every bend, new photo opportunities await!
The 9-kilometer trail starts at the Plaza de la Iglesia in Santiago del Teide, passes through the neighborhood of Las Manchas, and concludes in the village of Arguayo. If you prefer not to walk the same route back, you can arrange a taxi for your return trip to Santiago del Teide or check the schedules of bus lines 461 and 462 in advance.
